Belkyfar, officially the Union of Belkyfar Communes (UBC) is a sovereign island nation north of the Aquilo Sea. Formed at the end of the Ashkali Civil War in 1112 AC, the newly established government was immediately thrown into conflict once again this time within the colonies of the Viceroyalty of New Ashkal in 1113 with the Seresian War of Independence. After a 14 year long campaign, the Ashkali government signs the Peace of Pristina and agrees to let go of most of their Seresian colonies. Today, while Ashkal is a shadow of its former self in both size and power, it is still known as the most powerful nation within the known world due to its large navy and its extensive connections throughout the world through the Seresian Confederation. Ashkal is considered to be the most powerful and influential nation within the known world.
The Federation is a democratic federal presidential constitutional republic, composed of eleven provinces. The government is divided into three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The legislative branch is the Congress, staffed by representatives elected by their states and senators, forming two houses: House of Representatives and the Senate. The Congressmen use a variety of titles: "Councilor," "Counselor," "Councilman," "Representative," and "Senator." The executive branch is the Federation Council, headed by the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor. The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor are elected by Federation citizens, with advice from the Congress. The judicial branch consisted of the Supreme Court and the lower Regional Courts. The Supreme Court was composed of twelve justices, one of whom held the leadership position of Chief Justice.
In the past few decades, despite the Republic being benevolent and having a degree of freedom within its borders, it has grown and ineffective due to an increasingly larger government tied up in layers of bureaucracy and widespread political and corporate corruption.
