House Verwood is a tiny, ancient house located in the Riverlands, hidden within a forest. Due to its minute significance and geographic isolation, it has gone largely unnoticed for centuries. Despite this, they have proudly stood by the Ashkali since Oba's conquest, fighting in every war, though their tiny levy has rarely numbered more than thirty odd men, especially in recent years.
On top of their relative obscurity, House Verwood is cursed. Hundreds of years ago, even before the Ashkali arrived in Westeros, an old lord of Verwood discovered a rich vein of gold in the hill beneath Verwood Hall. Ignoring the advice of his soothsayer (and architect), he dug greedily, growing wealthy from the ore. His luck ran out when the mines beneath Verwood Hall collapsed, swallowing up the entire structure and the Lord with it. The only surviving part of the hall that survived was the tower and Tree abbey, the roots of which held the earth fast in place; fortunately, the sister of the lord was in the tree-abbey at the time. Since then, House Verwood has had only a scattered few surviving male heirs; the women of the House have been forced to learn the arts of fighting and diplomacy as a survival measure.
Rumors have it that the woman of the Verwood's have sold their souls to dark powers and use black magic. These rumors are fueled with a large amount of missing; both child and adult, that occurs within the Verwood forest.
