Jannah, known also as the Sun-City, or Azargrad, meaning "The City of God", is the capital of the Celestial Hegemony and amongst the greatest and most fortified fortress-cities within the known world and beyond. With a population of a million, it is the Hegemony's second largest city after Iskra (the former imperial capital). The Sun City is home to the Heavenly Temple and much of the government of the Hegemony.
The Hegemony's largest city after Iskra, Jannah is primarily an administrative city, but it is also an important commercial, industrial, and cultural center located at the center of the Hegemony's road and railway networks. Grains, vegetables, and fruit are grown nearby. Manufactures include food products, wine, farm machinery, iron and steel, textiles, and cement.
Jannah is the rock upon which enemies both ancient and modern of the Asharans have broken upon. Founded before the coronation of Azar was born, the giant mountain on which Jannah sits, called the Holy Mountain or Azar's Fist, towers high above the surrounding land farmland and forests. Four great causeways lead from the ground to the city’s gates, connecting Jannah with the roads to Iskra in the east, Cychis in the north, and Angarash and Ghalmek in the south. From its ramparts cannons point in all directions, showing the willingness of the people of the Sun City to do battle anytime, anywhere. Central to the city is its identity as the home of the chief temple of the Heavenly Temple and the Hegemon.
The religion's Grand Temple of the Eternal Flame of Azar dominates the center of the city, itself a fortress within a fortress. Its battlements are not just for show, and the Guardians of the Eternal Flame who live in the attached barracks are not just for parades. The eternal flame of Azar burns bright within its sanctum, and the temple will be the last place to fall should Jannah’s walls fail.
