Arkhan is born in 1576 to middle-class landowners. The second of five children, Arkhan was sent to a missionary school at the age of sixteen to avoid being conscripted to fight in the Half Century war. However, Arkhan was always a troubled and disruptive student and in 1594 was sent to the front lines as a Chaplin. After his first battle, Arkhan was noted to undergo a mental breakdown and began to believe he was a prophet sent by God. At the Battle of Ghilurah, Arkhan's unit was noted as being surprisingly efficient and successful and it is said that his unit alone at turned the tide of battle toward their favor. Success after success gained Arkhan and his unit, now known as the Chosen Lions of Vissari, notoriety with his enemies and fame with his allies. Despite these successes, the war ends with Grand Duke Hurien taking the throne, suing for peace against the coalition, and demobilizing the military. Arkhan and his followers, dissatisfied with the outcome retreat from public life and establish a commune in the plains of the west. His modest commune begins to grow as the years go due to word of mouth of his followers and his Five Apostles.
